agentav --describe platform

One engine for every place agents think and act

Agent Antivirus is antivirus and EDR for AI agents. The same engine runs inside your code, in front of your MCP servers, on developer machines and in production, and every verdict lands in one console.

agentav events --kinds

Built around agent events, not files

The unit of detection is an agent event. Each one carries a trust level, so the engine knows the difference between what your user asked for and what a web page told the agent to do.

EventWhat it isDefault trust
user_promptA person asking the agent to do somethinguser
model_outputWhat the agent says back or rendersagent
tool_callThe agent acting on the world: shell, SQL, APIs, trades, emailagent
tool_resultOutside content entering the agent's contextuntrusted
tool_definitionMCP tool lists, plugin and skill manifestsuntrusted
retrievalRAG chunks, web pages, emails, documentsuntrusted
memory_writeThe agent saving something to long-term memoryagent
agent_messageA message from another agentuntrusted
egressA raw outbound requestagent
configAgent configuration at rest: CLAUDE.md, MCP configs, skillsuntrusted

agentav pipeline --tiers

Cheap checks on everything, deeper checks where they matter

Fast detectors run on every event. The behavioral engine adds what the session has already seen. Policy turns findings into one verdict, and the strictest finding wins.

Signature packs

every event

Versioned YAML rules for instruction overrides, fake system messages, role-token spoofing, memory planting, dangerous commands, exfiltration and tool poisoning. Every rule ships with the examples it must and must not match, and agentav rules test runs them.

Heuristics and decoders

every event

An injection heuristic for wording no rule has seen yet, invisible Unicode, secrets and credential-destination binding, zero-click image exfiltration, tool-description poisoning and lookalike packages. Hidden payloads are decoded and scanned again.

Behavioral engine

whole session
  • Trifecta monitor: untrusted content, private data and an outbound channel in one session.
  • Canary monitor: a planted token leaving the boundary is a confirmed leak.
  • Scope monitor: tool allow, deny and approval lists, and egress lists.
  • Loop monitor: repeated identical calls, call rate and session budgets.

Policy

one verdict

Per-category overrides, severity tables and a minimum confidence before anything is blocked. Monitor mode records what would have happened without interfering. Policies are YAML and can extend one another.

Analyst tier

in development

Events that land in the gray zone will escalate to an investigation swarm built on EDS Agents: following links in a sandbox, checking reputation and comparing the action with what the session set out to do. The engine's escalation interface is in place today.

agentav normalize --explain

Disguises make it worse, not better

Matching runs on the raw text and on a normalized copy with invisible characters stripped, full-width letters folded and Cyrillic or Greek lookalikes mapped back. Base64, hex, percent-encoding and Unicode tag characters are decoded and scanned again, up to two layers deep.

A rule that only matches after normalization is raised one severity level and marked obfuscated, because someone tried to hide it.

agentav session --follow

Sequences, not snapshots

The most dangerous attacks are chains of steps that each look harmless. Agent Antivirus keeps state for every session: whether untrusted content has entered it, whether private data has, which tools have run and how often.

When an agent that has read untrusted content and touched private data reaches for an outbound channel, the action waits for a person, even if no signature matched.

session 7f3a: no signature matched
  1. 1web_fetchReads a market summary page. The session is now carrying untrusted content.
  2. 2read_fileOpens a customer export that contains a cloud secret. The session now holds private data.
  3. 3http_post to paste.exampleHOLD behav.trifecta: the outbound call waits for a person, because this session now holds untrusted content and private data.

agentav integrity

Integrity and forensics built in

The controls an EDR gives endpoints, rebuilt for agents.

Tool pinning

Each MCP tool's name, description and schema is fingerprinted the first time it is seen. If a server quietly changes a tool later, the new version is held and blocked until someone approves it with agentav pins approve.

Canary tokens

Plant fake keys, URLs and email addresses in data an agent can reach. If one ever shows up in an outbound call, the leak is confirmed and the session is quarantined on the spot.

Tamper-evident audit trail

Every verdict is written to a hash-chained ledger in which each record commits to the one before it. agentav audit verify detects any edit, deletion or reordering.

Quarantine and kill switch

Lock a session from the console or the API and release it when you are satisfied. The monitoring tap has an off switch that takes one setting and no code change.

agentav policy --modes

Monitor first. Enforce when the numbers convince you.

Every deployment starts in monitor mode: the engine records each verdict and what it would have done, and changes nothing. When you switch to enforce, the same verdicts start to act.

Tighten, never loosen

Sensors only deny, redact or ask. Agent Antivirus never approves something your platform would otherwise have asked a person about.

Privacy by default

The control plane stores verdict metadata and masked evidence, not raw prompts or full secrets. The monitoring tap redacts credential fields before anything leaves your service.

Measured, not claimed

Static tiers take a median of 0.21 ms and a 95th percentile of 0.87 ms per event on the AgentAV test corpus, in pure Python on one core. The production median is on the live dashboard.

agentav serve

Hosted or in your own cloud

Use the hosted control plane, or run the same container next to your agents. Sensors talk to it over HTTPS or a private network, each tenant is isolated by its API key, and verdict history is kept for 90 days by default.

See it on your own agents

A 7-day pilot in monitor mode shows exactly what Agent Antivirus would catch before it is allowed to stop anything.
